Cherokee Nation Industries Showcases Newest Manufacturing Facility
STILWELL, Okla. – This past week, Cherokee Nation Industries hosted a ceremony to showcase its newest Stilwell manufacturing facility that is adding additional space for growing business and employment.
Speakers at the ceremony included Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation; Bryan Collins, Chief Executive Officer of Cherokee Nation Industries; and James Collins, Mayor of Stilwell.
“Cherokee employees are the reason we continue to grow,” said Bryan Collins, chief executive officer for Cherokee Nation Industries. “Their dedication to superior quality, efficiency and on-time delivery has earned CNI a great reputation amongst our customers and this is creating growth.”
The second facility gives CNI 45,000 square feet of additional manufacturing space to acquire more aerospace and defense programs. The current renovated space, totaling 33,000 square feet, and the recently acquired facility, slated to be completely renovated by May 2009, is designed to house nearly 160 workers.
“I believe that when we get this facility fully implemented, our employment numbers will increase by 10 percent during the next year,” said Collins. “Not only will we be able to bring more jobs, but we are showing our dedication to the aerospace industries and making commitments to efficient production.”
The new facility is designed and engineered to create workspaces that are adaptable to different manufacturing programs. This capability is a huge step, allowing CNI to reconfigure the facility to improve efficiencies in a matter of minutes. The design also allows management to quickly address issues that may arise in production, as all supervisory staff has a workstation on the actual production floor.
“Cherokee Nation Industries is our oldest and longest operating tribal business,” said Principal Chief Chad Smith. “CNI is a valuable asset to Cherokees living in and around Stilwell, employing more than 400 workers in Stilwell and Tahlequah.”
“CNI has come a long way since the old VFW days, and they seem to be moving in the right direction,” said James Collins, mayor of Stilwell. “If it is great for CNI, then it is definitely great for Stilwell.”
CNI and its affiliated companies are wholly owned by the Cherokee Nation. CNI was established in 1969 to serve as the economic and workforce arm for the Cherokee Nation. This tribal corporation specializes in aerospace and defense manufacturing, telecommunications, construction, distribution and personnel services.
